Bass Guitar Nut File Set, 3 files

Nice set of files for less than the cost of having one nut replaced.

I like these for the most part. The file sizes chosen for the set were very clever. The 0.85” file side doesn’t seem to cut very willingly, but a good slot is produced with a little extra work. I do enjoy my Hosco tools, and am a faithful supporter of their brand.

I had this set for electric guitars, so when came time to get some for bass work, I decided to grab these. Do the job great. I tried the cheaper no-name brand that look like these, and it's worth the extra for these. Filing is nice and smooth, doesn't grab like the cheaper ones.

The nominal size doesn't relate to the actual slot produced by these files, specially the 0.045 (actually is 0.060) and 0.065 (actually is 0.080). Other gauges are slightly different too. Bought these on october 2020. I understand the V tapered, but the bottom is way out of the nominal value indicated. I'm sorry, these files looked good but now I cannot trust in them. Maybe PLTS should demand for better quality control or something, but tolerances are way out for a tool that has to be precise. **Admin - it is actually impossible to produce accurate slots from these types of files because of the geometry of the files. The files are thick and most be ground to a V shape to produce a string slot. They make slot that cradles a string and work as intended. Most don't have any issues using these types of files. If you must have an accurate slot, then you need use a file made from material that is the same width as the slot they will produce. These are my go to for nut slots. Probably not the cheapest, but they work great.

After attempting using a cheap round saw rod option I got frustrated and decided to open my wallet and buy the right tool. Assuming I don’t lose them, these will easily last me the rest of my life. They cut quick and clean and are easy to handle.
