- Hosco/3 peaks brand - Fret Puller
- Made in Japan
- Precisely ground 10mm jaws
- Black rubber gripped handle (originally blue)
- Overall Length approx. 6” (150mm)
These are the best fret pullers available. The narrow jaws work better than other fret pullers on radius fretboards. With the shallow angle of the jaws, you will wedge the frets out of their slots slower and have less fingerboard chipping.
Remember these are for pulling frets and not cutting. DO NOT USE TO CUT FRETWIRE.
In order to pull frets cleanly it is recommended you use a soldering iron to heat the fretwire. This will help soften the fingerboard and loosen any glue that might be holding the frets.
After heating the fret, you will be using the pliers to pinch the frets out and not pull the frets. Each squeeze of the pliers will wedge the fretwire slowly out of its slot. Make sure that the face of the pliers stays in contact with the fingerboard at all times. Continue walking the pullers from one end of the fret to the other while slowly squeezing the pliers to remove the fretwire. Go slowly so you don’t have any chipping problems.

Really are better
These definitely work better than the recent ones I was using. Very nice!

Going back to the unbranded Chinese pliers I found in an alley
I must've gotten a defective pair as everybody else seems to enjoy theirs. I find the curved face makes pulling the fret take much, much longer. Also, the fret is pulled out rather than walked or lifted out. When working with tighter radii, this means the tang pulls at an angle and busts through where it had bitten into the slot. I did a side-by-side comparison with my old pliers with different woods, radii, glued and not glued, heating the fret and pulling cold. The Hosco pliers lost in every single case. Super bummed but I'm just going to grind them down and I'm sure they'll have a use.

Fret pulling made surprisingly easy!
Purchased these after a little shopping around. Found them to be the best compromise of affordable price and desirable design. This was my first attempt at refretting. I had done a couple fret levels and gained enough confidence to try and improve the playability of a squier SE strat neck. To be totally honest I found pulling the frets to be almost underwhelmingly easy. I suspect this particular neck and fret work wasn't done to a high standard so that may have effected the degree of difficulty I experienced in this instance. Anyway, they worked well, I had very minimal chipping, and found the removal and initial installation of the new frets to be very easy. It was the latter steps where I realized the difficulty lies in dressing the frets without damaging the other aspects of the guitar. I would recommend these for sure. Service from Philly luthier supply was great as usual.

Very well made product!
Just bought these for my first attempt at redoing a fretboard. I realized the fret wire wasn’t seating properly and it was due to the board needing more of a radius added to it. These pliers worked like a charm at removing the wire cleanly and smoothly. Worth the purchase!
