These are used to install knobs that were designed for 1/4" solid shaft pots on split shaft pots(both fine and coarse splined) and metric 6mm solid shaft pots.  These will increase the diameter of the pot's shaft so the knob will sit centered on the shaft.

Great product you didn't know you needed!

These work great when mixing knobs and pots of different measurements. Tried to make these years ago on my fathers lathe... these are much nicer than my attempt was :)

    Brass Pot Adapter Sleeves

These worked perfectly when I installed heavy knurled Telecaster knobs on the splined pots on my Eastwood Backlund Model 100.

I got these to mount some gold knobs on a Fender that had split shaft pots. They slide over the pot shaft loosely, but they wouldn't fit into the knobs. I took the set screw out of the knobs and checked for burs, but I could barely get them started at all. I managed to force one about halfway in, but that wasn't good enough, and then I mangled it because I had to use a pliers to pull it out. I ended up using a jeweler's saw to cut a slit down the side of the sleeves, so the kerf allowed me squeeze the sleeve together a little bit and slide it into the knob. It worked out, but in the future I'd probably just wrap the pot shaft with some copper shielding tape, or do it right and get some solid shaft pots. Admin - sounds like you were trying use the on 6mm set screw knobs instead of 1/4" set screws knobs. These aren't need for 5mm set screw knobs.

    Does exactly what it says!

I used these inexpensive brass pot sleeves to put set-screw "top hat" knobs on my Reverend Manta Ray. They fit the stock split-shaft pots perfectly. The new knobs are secure, no wobble on rotation. Highly recommended.
